To the best of my ability I Pledge to keep my home and yard free of pesticides (this includes fungicides, herbicides, insecticides, rodenticides and any other petrochemical or chemical agents that are known to cause cancer, reproductive harm, genetic damage, endocrine disruption or breathing difficulties). Whenever pest control is needed I will consult with a local organic nursery or call a knowledgeable agent such as organizations noted by the PFZ organization located close to me. I will further attempt, when asked, to educate others regarding my reasons for not using harmful pest control methods.
By taking this Pledge you agree to the following endorsement statement:
Immediately ban the use of the most dangerous pesticides, (EPA Toxicity Class I and II) and those suspected of causing cancer, endocrine disruption and reproductive harm.
Require on-site, public pre and post notification of all pesticide applications.
Adopt a written Integrated Pest Management Policy (IPM) emphasizing non-toxic means of pest and weed control.
Establish a Pest Management Committee comprised of appropriate concerned parties to oversee implementation.
Eliminate, within a reasonable time frame, the use of all pesticides except those least toxic, which are authorized for use by the Pest Management Committee.
Note: Integrated Pest Management is only a stepping stone to getting to complete elimination of pesticides. It can be used by some agencies as an excuse to use pesticides so community oversight is essential and must be continual to achieve that safe community.
